How the Germany grading scale works
Universities in Germany typically grade on the 1.0–5.0 Scale (1.0 = Best). On this scale, lower is better: 1.0 (Sehr Gut) is the best possible result. Your GPA is the credit-weighted average of your grades: each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours, summed, and divided by the total credits taken.
| Grade | Points |
|---|---|
| 1.0 (Sehr Gut) | 1 |
| 1.3 | 1.3 |
| 1.7 | 1.7 |
| 2.0 (Gut) | 2 |
| 2.3 | 2.3 |
| 2.7 | 2.7 |
| 3.0 (Befriedigend) | 3 |
| 3.3 | 3.3 |
| 3.7 | 3.7 |
| 4.0 (Ausreichend) | 4 |
| 5.0 (Nicht bestanden) | 5 |
